Let’s say you’ve just moved into an older home and you notice its plumbing system needs updating. Or you’ve lived in the home for years and you know you’ll need to update its plumbing to make it more attractive to potential buyers.

Regardless of the reason, you’ve decided to upgrade your home’s plumbing system and you want to do so as quickly as possible.

quick plumbing fixes

Take a look below for five ways you can improve your home’s plumbing system quickly.

  1. One of the quickest things you can do to improve the home’s plumbing – quickest, as in today – is to check the faucets’ and showerheads’ water pressure. If it’s low, a quick fix could entail just installing new shower heads and faucets.
  2. If new shower heads/faucets do little or nothing to improve water pressure, check every pipe in your home for leaks. Even small leaks can reduce the pressure going through your pipes to the faucets/showers. Leaks also can cause mold and mildew to form over time if the leak isn’t dealt with. If you discover leaks, you’ll probably need a Dallas plumber to fix them (unless they are leaks easy to get to and very minor; if in doubt, don’t take chances and call that plumber).
  3. Good water pressure is critical, yet so is “soft” water coming out of your bath faucets and shower heads. What’s more “hard” water can leave small mineral deposits in your pipes, slowly shrinking the amount of water that moves through them, lowering the water pressure. These mineral deposits also could grow to the point that you may have to replace those pipes sooner than you’d need to. Getting a water softener installed by a plumber not only protects your pipes and helps make your home more attractive to buyers, it also helps your skin, hair and even nails feel “softer.”
  4. If you own an older home and it doesn’t come with a garbage disposal, consider having one installed. This is a very quick fix and, if you’re looking to sell your home, you probably would need to anyway because most homebuyers today absolutely expect a garbage disposal underneath the kitchen sink.
  5. Is your basement prone to flooding? Is the water table around your home fairly high? If you don’t have one already, a sump pump is a quick improvement. It can be, in fact, a life saver of sorts as it can remove water from your basement quickly.
